NFC tags

What NFC tags do

A physical NFC tag can be bound to an artwork's certificate of attestation. Once bound, tapping a phone against the tag opens the certificate's verification view — a physical handshake between the artwork and its digital provenance. See Provenance & certificates for what verification shows.

Scanning a tag

1. Open the Scan NFC screen in the app (or use the scan action on a certificate).
2. Hold the top of your phone flat against the tag until it is detected.
3. The linked certificate opens automatically.

Tips if a tag isn't reading:

• Make sure NFC is enabled (Android: Settings → Connected devices; iPhone: always on, no setting needed).
• The antenna is at the top edge of most phones — move the phone slowly over the tag.
• Remove thick cases, and avoid metal surfaces directly behind the tag.
• NFC requires the iOS or Android app — the web version can't scan tags.
